Actress Leighton Meester of ‘Gossip Girl’ fame will join fellow TV star Hugh Laurie and Catherine Keener in the indie dramedy ‘The Oranges.’ Laurie stars in the film, about a man whose affair with the daughter of a family friend causes a slew of drama. But what else would you expect from Blair Waldorf? [Variety]
Since he first hit it big in 2003 with “The OC,” Josh Schwartz has been busy making TV gold. He is the (co-)mastermind behind the sinful “Gossip Girl” and wonderfully nerdy “Chuck,” and is responsible for making the careers of current young hotties Blake Lively, Chace Crawford, Rachel Bilson and Zachary Levi. And Mischa Barton for a brief stint of time before she pissed him off so much he killed her off “The OC” (even better: Cam Gigandet did the deed!).
Well, now Josh is trying to expand his horizons to the film industry. He is already set to remake the 80s flop “Bright Lights, Big City,” but now New York Magazine’s Vulture blog scooped that he is set to remake another 80s bomb. According to the Vulture, Josh is going to take a stab at the 1981 Franco Zeffirelli film, “Endless Love.”
This spring, Broadway’s razzle-dazzle hit musical CHICAGO is pleased to welcome “Gossip Girl” star Matthew Settle as he makes his Broadway stage debut in the role of slick criminal lawyer Billy Flynn for a ten-week limited engagement, Monday, March 29, 2010 through Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the Ambassador Theatre.
Matthew Settle currently stars as Rufus on the CW Network’s acclaimed drama “Gossip Girl.” The show, now in its third season, was developed from The New York Times best-selling novels of the same name by producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (both known for their success from “The OC”).
Good news if you are a fan of Leighton Meester and Nina Dobrev: Their executive producer has promised to “work on” getting these real-life friends to guest star on each other’s CW shows.
Here’s what Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl executive producer Bob Levy tells me:
“I love that idea!” Levy said of having Nina guest star on Gossip Girl and Leighton guest star on Vampire Diaries some time in the future. The idea came up while I was chatting with Nina and Levy at a recent press event, and Levy said: “We’re gonna work on that. You have my word.”
“Gossip Girl” actor Sebastian Stan will star opposite Ashley Green in “The Apparition,” a supernatural horror project.
Rookie filmmaker Todd Lincoln is directing from his own script — which is said to be inspired by true events — for Dark Castle Entertainment, the label behind such films as “Orphan” and “Ninja Assassin.”
The story revolves around a couple haunted by a supernatural presence unleashed during a college experiment. Shooting is scheduled to begin February 1 in Germany.
Andrew McCarthy, the star of some of the most iconic teen movies of the ’80s (Pretty in Pink, Less Than Zero), is getting back to his roots by taking on the CW’s sexy drama, Gossip Girl.
McCarthy, who will direct an episode set to air in the spring, says the show’s young stars are different than the ones who came to be known as the Brat Pack. “They are much more savvy then we were,” McCarthy tells PEOPLE of Gossip Girl’s cast. “We were just a bunch of dumb kids running around.”
And while his experience in teen angst didn’t include threesomes or affairs with politicians, McCarthy, a Gossip Girl fan, is excited to get behind the camera to direct the steamy show. “We have a nice episode, all sorts of juicy little things happen — the normal Gossip Girl juicy things,” McCarthy tells PEOPLE of the episode he directs. So what exactly qualifies as “juicy” in the world of Gossip Girl?
Yen Press has announced a manga adaptation of the popular teen fiction books and television show Gossip Girl.
HyeKyung Baek (Bring It On) will write and illustrate Gossip Girl: For Your Eyes Only, which re-imagines the senior year of characters Blair and Vanessa.
Cecily von Ziegesar’s 13-book series debuted in 2002, and has since spawned a successful television series from The O.C.’s Josh Schwartz.
Sebastian Stan (”Spread”) has joined the cast of Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan.” The pic centers on a ballet dancer, played by Natalie Portman and her rivalry with a fellow dancer. Stan can be seen next in “Hot Tub Time Machine.” [Source]
The Upper East Side’s Blair Waldorf is trading her “Gossip Girl” headbands for a cowboy hat — Leighton Meester is headed to Nashville for “Love Don’t Let Me Down.”
“Love Don’t Let Me Down” is shaping up to have an all-star cast. Not only has Leighton Meester signed on, but so have Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw and Garrett Hedlund, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The story is that a rising country star (Hedlund) teams up with a fallen country star (Paltrow). Their relationship is complicated by the fallen star’s manager-husband (McGraw) and a beauty-queen-turned-country-singer (Meester).
